Why is clutter so important?
One definition of clutter is “a confused or disordered state.” I also see it as “any distraction that gets in the way of” ….Energy Flow.
Other words used to describe clutter…
- unorganized
- a messy jumble
- items in disarray
Does this resonate with you?
Energy cannot flow when there is any variety of clutter!
And speaking of resonating (the sympathetic vibration of air when something is meaningful or important to us), we must acknowledge that everything is energy, including clutter…. and energy VIBRATES with a frequency.
Therefore, clutter has a frequency too. If we surround or submerge ourselves with clutter vibrating at a lower frequency, we become entrained* to the lower vibration of the clutter and become “stuck” and/or even “depressed”.
Sound familiar?
You have probably heard about the BWE (brain wave entrainment)* music and meditation, both of which endeavor to raise our vibration to improve our state of mind through external stimulus. Well, clutter is doing the opposite. The more dense the matter/clutter, the lower the frequency surrounding us will be. Consider several aspects and then you choose what fits your situation the best?
Clutter can be huge piles of “stuff” that is out of sight and out of mind.
Or it can be right there in front of us begging for action.
Clutter can be a minimal distraction.
Or it can be an albatross hanging heavily on our “pick a body part”.
Clutter can cause physical “in my face” (and in my space) stress.
Or it can be a vague, hazy, stuck feeling that something is just not right.
Whether it is minimal or maximal, physical or mental, clutter is affecting our vibration/frequency. We need to pay attention to how clutter makes us feel and take our cues for action from this.

How does Feng Shui help clear clutter?
Feng Shui’s goal is to improve the flow of energy and create balance and harmony in our living spaces. Feng Shui employs the use of color and the five elements (earth, water, fire, metal, and wood) to balance and harmonize. The obvious implication is that energy flow is impeded anywhere there is clutter. Therefore, de-cluttering is an important first step in achieving that higher vibration/energy.
Emotional Freedom Technique
If you are ready to de-clutter, but acknowledge that you need help, a technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) can be extremely helpful in changing your mind-set and limiting beliefs about clutter. (EFT is not a requirement for purchasing a Feng Shui or Dowsing Consultation.) Click here to find out more about EFT.
*The basic concept of entrainment is the tendency for two vibrating bodies to lock into the same phase such as multiple clocks in the clock repair shop. The brain is susceptible to copying the vibrations it encounters in its surroundings such as joy, excitement, or even clutter.
